יונתן סטבסקי הוא בעל תואר דוקטור בספרות אנגלית מטעם האוניברסיטה העברית מאז ינואר 2014. עבודתו על "נשים צדיקות העומדות למבחן בספרות האנגלית והאירופית של ימי הביניים" זכתה בפרס ע"ש שלומיוק. את שנת הלימודים תשע"ד עשה כמלגאי פולברייט לפוסט-דוקטורט באוניברסיטת פנסילבניה, שם חקר את התקבלותו של צ'וסר בשירה האנגלית של המאה החמש-עשרה וכן את הפואטיקה המקראית של היצירה Mirour de l’omme מאת ג'ון גאוור. בתשע"ה הצטרף למנדל סכוליון כפוסט-דוקטורנט. פרויקט המחקר העיקרי שלו בוחן את מכלול הטענות שאבות הכנסייה השתמשו בהן כדי להגדיר את הטקסט המקראי ואת קהילת הקוראים שהתקבצה סביבו בניגוד ל"אגדות" פגאניות, חיצוניות לביבלייה הנוצרית או יהודיות ולמספריהן. מחקרו ממשיך ומנתח תפישות של כתיבה ספרותית והיסטורית שרווחו בימי הביניים לאור קטגוריות אלו כדי להבין לעומק כיצד סופרים מרקעים שונים התייחסו לכתבי הקודש.

Jonathan Stavsky graduated with a PhD in English from the Hebrew University in January 2014. His dissertation on Righteous Women on Trial in Medieval English and European Literature was awarded the Schlomiuk Prize. Jonathan spent the academic year of 2013–2014 as a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, where he worked on Chaucer’s reception in fifteenth-century English poetry, as well as on the biblical poetics of John Gower’s Mirour de l’omme. Jonathan has been a postdoctoral fellow at Mandel Scholion from 2014 to 2016. His main research project examines the complex of arguments used by the Fathers of the Church to define the biblical text and the community of readers it brings together in contrast to pagan, apocryphal, or Jewish “fables” and those who tell them. It then analyzes medieval conceptions of literary and historical writing in light of these categories in order better to understand how authors of various backgrounds related to Scripture.
