הילה דיפני כתבה את עבודת הדוקטורט שלה באוניברסיטת בר-אילן בהנחייתם של פרופ' נילי סמט ופרופ' עמנואל טוב מהאוניברסיטה העברית (2020). לאחר סיום הדוקטורט היא היתה עמיתת בתר-דוקטורט באוניברסיטת תל-אביב במסגרת פרויקט המחקר SQE ובמרכז לחקר המקרא באוניברסיטת אוקספורד. מחקריה של ד"ר דיפני עוסקים בחקר המקרא, ספרות ימי הבית השני ומגילות מדבר יהודה. ספרהThe Transmission of the Pentateuch (De Gruyter, 2023) משלב כלים מתחום חקר נוסח המקרא ופלאוגרפיה על מנת להתחקות אחר עבודת הסופרים הקדומים ביהודה ובשומרון שהעתיקו ומסרו את התורה ולבחון את תפוצתו של תהליך המסירה במאות האחרונות לפני הספירה. הפרויקט הנוכחי שלה במרכז מנדל סכוליון עוסק בתפיסת התורה כחיבור מאוחד והיחס בין חמשת חומשיה בימי בית שני.
