גל ונטורה היא היסטוריונית תרבותית של אמנות בחוג לתולדות האמנות באוניברסיטה העברית. מחקרה, שעוסק באמנות הצרפתית של המאה ה-19, תקופה סוערת מבחינה פוליטית, כלכלית, תרבותית ואמנותית, מתמקד בנקודות ההשקה בין תרבות חזותית וחומרית ובין רפואה, ועוסק בילדות ואימהות, הנקה, כאב ומוות. מאמריה האחרונים, אשר עוסקים ברפואה, אימהות, עיצוב ואופנה פורסמו במגוון כתבי עת בינלאומיים, ביניהם: Studies in the Maternal; Journal of Social History; Design and Culture; Design for Health; Visual Resources; Nineteenth-Century Art Worldwide, Social History of Medicine, Journal of Design History. ספרה החדש, שעתיד לצאת לאור ב-2022, מתמקד בהיסטוריה של השינה, ובוחן את הנסיבות ההיסטוריות, התרבותיות, הכלכליות והרפואיות שגרמו להורים למשטר ולנרמל את שנת ילדיהם.
