Dr. Iyas Nasser’s research focuses on the pre- and early Islamic poetry and classical Arabic literature. He completed his Ph.D. degree in the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His doctoral dissertation investigates the conventional amatory opening of the pre- and early Islamic polythematic poem, analyzing its forms and narrative components. Nasser was a Minerva postdoctoral fellow at the Freie Universität Berlin. His research at Mandel Scholion explores the content and the forms of the extended simile in the pre- and early Islamic poetry, as well as in its Quranic context, elucidating the function of this literary device from a narratological perspective. In January 2021, Nasser was appointed as lecturer in the Department of Arabic Language at the Hebrew University, and in May 2021 he won a Maof Scholarship, presented by the Council for Higher Education to outstanding young scientists. Nasser taught for several years in the Arabic Language and Literature Department at the Hebrew University and at the David Yellin Academic College. He is also a poet and published two poetry collections.
